Last Thursday's evening our Winetour was about to begin. The following weekend we were to taste Montasnt, Priorat and Terra Alta, so Thursaday's #WinetastingBarcelona was Empordà, Cava, Conca de Barberà...
Parellada 2011, Carles Andreu, DO Conca de Barberà was our first wine. Lots of battonage and a great acidity in an elegant white wine. Check Carles andreu 100% Trepat red wine.
Brut Imperial, Reixach Baques, DO Cava, taught us how a goog Catalan sprakling wine is made. A blend of Xarel·lo, Macabeu, Parellada and 42 month before "degorgé" offer pleasant bubbles amd candied apples together with a very fresh acidity.
Solà Fred Rosat, Celler del Masroig, DO Montsant, a grenache rosé with a hint of syrah for my Sula friends.
Josep Foraster Trepat 2011, Celler Josep Foraster, DO Conca de Barberà. One of the evenings highlights, a great 100% Trepat. Flowers and spices on the nose, very fresh red berries, mature tannins and freshness on th plate for a wine which was awesome!
Oratori 2011, Celler Martí Fabra, DO Empordà. A grenache wine striaght from the Pyrenees, aged in concrete to keep all of its fruit primary aromas. Outstanding nose, surprising flavours, liquorice...
Cartèssius 2005, Celler Arché Pagès, DO Empordà. A blend of Grenache 50%, Cabernet 30%, and Carignan 20% in a 10 months aged in oak wine. Mature with coffee, and spicy smells and flavours, as it was mentioned "like a good Rioja..."
Some "Tapas" by El 600 de La Pepi a dish of Catalan artisanal cheeses, "patatas bravas" and "chorizos" were served with the wines.
And that was only the beginning ... "Skool"!
